5th April 2008 - Division 4 Mens Only Premiers !!

Congratulations to our Division 4 Mens Only team who won the 2007-08 Premiership today in emphatic style.

The grand final was originally scheduled 2 weeks earlier, but due to the unprecedented heat wave during March, the match was postponed into April.

However after weeks of anticipation, the boys played out a hard fought grand final to take the clubs only premiership win for the year.

It was a nervous start to the grand final however, with Michael Burton being 4-2 down and looking down the barrel, before a great fight-back resulting in a 9-4 win.

Mark "Duffy" Duffield was pumped up for the big event and absolutely thumped his opponent scoring a 9-0 result.

The biggest come-back of the day though, was Andrew Burr who was 6-2 down and seemingly out of the match until an epic fight back saw him take the match to a tiebreaker and win 9-8.

However the team was not yet home after Trevor Surman, who had not lost a match all year went down in a cliffhanger 8-9.

It would come down to the doubles and only one win was required. Burr and Surman took out the doubles in straight sets giving Athelstone a 5-2 victory in the grand final.

2nd April 2007 - Division 2 Win in a Thriller

This year saw Athelstone take part in two grand finals with our Division 2 and Division 7 teams aiming at back to back premierships.

In a thriller the Division 2 team won the grand final by 10 games after the matches ended at 8 sets all.

The Division 7 team was not so fortunate going down 10-3.

8th March 2007 - Athelstone Tennis Club Survey

As the 2006-07 Season draws to a close, the Committee now reflects on the season that was. Thoughts are discussed with regards to the results of teams, the players we expect to keep and lose for next season, how can we convince Troy into being Club Captain
again... etc.

Also of importance though, is knowing what the players themselves think of the club. Are they enjoying their tennis? Do they want to see more social events and if so what kind? Are people willing to help out the committee or do they just want to hit a ball and go home?

Athelstone in the last few years has been spoilt with a good number of players, fantastic results including back to back Premierships in Division 1 and well organised and supported social events.

To maintain this, we are asking you to help us understand what players think of the club. Please take the time to download the following survey. You can fill it out on your computer and email it to enquiries@athelstonetc.com or you can print it and post it back to the club.

Please take the small amount of time to fill this survey in. It will be most appreciated and will allow us to understand how we can make the club better for you!
